It is the policy of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, IA Board of Elders to extend the privilege of the Rites of Christian Burial to all members of the greater baptized family of Zion Lutheran Church. The only requirement for the Rites of Christian Burial and their subsequent services is that they do not impede or interfere with our foundation of Word and Sacrament Ministry. Zion Lutheran Church facilities are available for the Rites of Christian Burial Monday through Saturday.
It is also the policy of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, IA Board of Elders to exclusively make use of appropriate and reverent Christian music (taken from published church hymnals – giving priority to the Lutheran Service Book) when making selections for the Funeral Service to keep the focus on the redemptive work of Christ Jesus and the hope we have in the Resurrection of the Dead on the Last Day. In addition, to keep Christ Jesus as the focus of each Funeral Service, all eulogies, celebrations of life, and anecdotes from family and friends are to be kept outside of the Funeral Service.
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
(Romans 6:3-5 ESV)
On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined. And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God… let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
